Description
Portsalon Golf Club, established in 1891, is one of Ireland's oldest and most esteemed links courses. Situated along Ballymastocker Beach on the Fanad Peninsula in County Donegal, the course offers golfers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Knockalla Mountains. Originally designed by Charles Thompson of Portrush, the layout was significantly updated in 2000 under the guidance of renowned architect Pat Ruddy. Further enhancements have been overseen by 2014 Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.
The course features a par-72 layout that weaves through natural sand dunes, presenting a challenging yet rewarding experience for players of all levels. Notably, the second hole, a par-4 stretching 457 meters along a sea inlet, has been recognized among Ireland's best golf holes. Portsalon Golf Club is currently ranked among the top 25 courses in Ireland by Golf Digest.
